Focus and the Environment

CORPORATE ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY STATEMENT

As the UK’s largest privately owned DIY and gardening retailer, FOCUS has a responsibility to manage and reduce its impact on the environment.

This will be achieved by:

  • Complying with all relevant environmental legislation.
  • Working smarter to keep the environmental impacts of business activities to a minimum.
  • Setting targets to measure and continually improve environmental performance in key areas.
  • Expecting suppliers to meet FOCUS’ environmental requirements and advising them on continuous improvement.
  • Requiring that wood and wood fibre products always come from known, legal sources (including those certified by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) and where commercially appropriate, increasing the proportion of wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. All wood products and their sources will be assessed against these requirements before being brought to market.
  • Reducing the dependency on the use of peat in products and requiring that any peat sold by the company is not sourced from designated conservation areas.
  • Using energy efficiently and promoting energy efficient products in store.
  • Reducing and recycling waste.
  • Wherever possible preventing pollution to the environment and encouraging suppliers and customers to do the same.
  • Providing customers with information on environmental issues in order that they may make informed decisions about the products they buy from FOCUS.
  • Actively encouraging awareness of environmental issues within FOCUS and openly communicating FOCUS’ practices to customers and other interested groups.
As Chief Executive Officer, I will:
  • Ensure this policy is implemented by all departments within the FOCUS Group.
  • Ensure that sufficient resources are committed in support of this policy.
  • Put in place Key Performance Indicators in order to measure compliance to this policy.
  • Encourage all employees, and other stakeholders, to be aware of environmental issues both at work and at home.
  • Ensure that this policy is reviewed and assessed annually.
