ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

PACKAGING

POLICY AIM

As a major UK national retailer of DIY and Gardening Products, Focus recognises the need to conserve natural resources and to protect the environment. Therefore, we have adopted a policy that will minimise the environmental impacts associated with product packaging and comply with all relevant legislation as a minimum.

POLICY STATEMENT

Focus will:

1. Meet all legislative requirements as a minimum.

2. Review own-brand packaging during range changes and minimise its environmental impact through improved design and appropriate use of materials.

3. Require suppliers to provide information on the size, weight, design and materials content of packaging on all own brand products sold.

4. Monitor developments in packaging technologies for opportunities to reduce environmental impacts.

5. Wherever possible specify the use of recycled materials and materials that can be recycled.

6. Provide information to customers concerning which packaging has a recycled content and/or can be recycled.

7. Ensure all environmental claims are simple, meaningful, relevant, accurate, used in the appropriate context and can be substantiated.

8. Only use environmental logos that are approved by FOCUS and are supported by credible independent labelling schemes.

9. Encourage suppliers of proprietary brands to adopt best environmental practice in the design of packaging used for their products.

10. Comply with all rules, licences, copyrights, codes of practice and official guidance concerning environmental labelling and claims.

11. This policy will be reviewed and assessed annually.
