Be resourceful...compost with FOCUS

FOCUS DIY has joined forces with The Composting Association to help launch Compost Awareness Week 2004.

Composting

FOCUS is the sole retailer supporting the UK wide campaign, which will run from 2 – 8 May, to encourage people to make and use soil enriching composts.

To help raise awareness amongst customers, information leaflets and point-of-sale information for composting related products, such as compost bins and shredders, will be sent out to all stores highlighting the main theme of the campaign: Be resourceful…Compost!

Joanne Hirst, Environment Manager at FOCUS said, “Raising awareness of the benefits associated with composting and soil-improving products is an essential part of our drive to promote sustainable gardening in the UK.”

TV gardener Monty Don is supporting the campaign with the slogan ‘Call yourself a gardener and you don’t make your own compost?’ He wants as many gardeners as possible involved in home composting.

“Not only does composting create a valuable resource, it also is the best way to solve the growing problem of landfill. It is the easiest way of working for our environment and every gardener and council should make compost,” Mr Don says.

Chief Executive of The Compost Association Dr Jane Gilbert added, “This year by working with FOCUS, we hope to raise awareness amongst consumers and the retail sector as a whole.”
