Project 4 - Seating and Decking

Our school garden project is now beginning to cater for wildlife, but not for humans. To allow the children to enjoy the garden and to work outside, we needed some garden furniture.

Picnic benches: We needed somewhere where the children could sit and work, that was good value (we needed a few), hard wearing and would fit in with the natural area. We found the ideal solution in Focus' picnic benches. These are flat-packed untreated pine benches that are easy to put together using just a screwdriver.

Focus Picnic benches are made from FSC certified untreated pine. They can be stained or painted but as we wanted them to have a natural look, we decided to use Focus Timbercare. It is fast drying and fade resistant. It's intended to be used on rough sawn timber such as fences and sheds so the smooth pine of the benches needed a few coats but they now look great and are fully protected.

Focus Timber Care 5L [£5.99].

Please come back to this page in a few weeks. We will be creating a decking platform and building some hardwood benches.
