I love anything that gets a job done quicker- that’s why power tools are such an efficient and easy way to tackle DIY jobs. However, for those of you who have never used power tools it can be a daunting prospect. The McKeller power tools range from Focus DIY have helped over the first hurdle, by colour coding the two new ranges by the requirements of the user. Black or Yellow. Now finding a tool to match your every need and skill level couldn’t be easier. They also offer excellent value for money and very user friendly.
The McKeller black range is for those of you who are just starting out with power tools and are great for jobs around the house. The McKeller yellow range is for the more experienced power tool user who will use the tools for more demanding jobs.
Great new features have been added to the McKeller range, for example their black range has 'soft touch' handles for a more comfortable grip and the yellow range has a three-year guarantee.
These new powertool features do actually make DIY jobs more manageable! As I found out last weekend whilst cutting up three large sheets of 12mm plywood using a jigsaw to cut curves and odd shapes. One of the problems I had was that the dust from the jigsaw was not blown clear of the line far enough ahead to make cutting easy- a common and frustrating problem with many DIY’ers I imagine. The job would have been made far easier if I had a laser guide built into my tools like the one in the McKeller jigsaw and circular saw.
As you know by now, I’m a great fan of cordless drills/screwdrivers. There was once an argument that said they were not powerful enough, but the McKeller 21.6volt drill/screwdriver will drive in a screw far more easily than can be done by hand and it can be used to drill quite large holes. There is an added bonus that it comes complete with a pipe and wire detector as well as a 109 piece drill set. Just the job for assembling flat pack furniture!
It would be impossible and irresponsible of me to write about power tools without mentioning safety. You must make sure you use suitable protective clothing and take sensible safety precautions- especially for those of you who are beginners. Safety glasses must be worn when using any power tool. Ear defenders should be used if using a power tool for a long time and dust masks are needed if any dust is being created. Remember not to wear loose clothing that may get caught in the power tool and make sure loose hair is kept back out of the way. Before you use the new tool, read and follow the manufacturer's instructions pertaining to safety and to the use of the tool. It seems obvious advice but it can be all too easily overlooked.
So good luck with the power-tools, remember- they have come a long way and there are tools to suit all levels of DIY skill all at a great price- so now there is no excuse to start doing those jobs you just didn’t have time for!
